2011 Bible Verse One

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a GREAT first week of the new year and have a WONDERFUL weekend ahead of them!

Just wanted to share something new I’m doing in this new year. The amazing Beth Moore (have I mentioned that I LOVE her?!!!) does what she calls the “Siesta Scripture Memory Team” (SSMT) each year (she calls the ladies on her blog her “Siestas” as a term of endearment…it started out that she would call us “Sistas”, as in “sisters”, but Spell Check kept changing it to “Siestas”, and it finally stuck!) where she challenges / leads us to commit to memory 24 Bible verses each year. The way she has it organized is that we all post on her blog the 1st and 15th of every month the verse we have individually chosen to memorize…a verse that speaks to us or that we need to have in our lives. She gives encouragement along the way and even gives recommendations if you can’t decide on your own (I used her January 1st recommendation…just a difference translation). She so greatly inspires me, and whereas I’ve never done it with her before, this year I’m going to try to do it!

My January 1st Scripture I decided upon was one I thought would be a good one to start 2011 (it’s also up in the top right corner of my blog for the month of January)…

“You crown the year with Your goodness,
and richness overflows wherever You are.”
--Psalm 65:11 GOD’S WORD translation

My plan every half month is to pick a verse to memorize that I really need in my life…to give me encouragement for those 15-ish days but also to have in my “arsenal” when life (as it sometimes can) turns into a battlefield of doubt, of worry, of sadness, of temptation, of stress, of impatience, of craziness, of fear. The Bible says…

“For the Word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any two edged sword.”
--Hebrew 4:12

“The Lord’s word is flawless;
He shields all who take refuge in Him.”
--2 Samuel 22:31, Psalm 18:30, Proverbs 30:5

“The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.”
--Isaiah 40:8

“Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ “
--Matthew 4:4

“No word from God will ever fail”
--Luke 1:37

“Now I commit you to God and to the word of His grace,
which can build you up
and give you an inheritance.”
--Acts 20:32

“For you have been born again…
through the living and enduring word of God.”
--1 Peter 1:23

And my plan is to share my SSMT Bible verse here too. (To hopefully keep me on track!) So check back around every 1st and 15th of the month!
